Ancient Culture Street (天津古文化街) is located in Nankai District, Tianjin. Situated not far from the Haihe River, Ancient Culture street is one of the most popular tourist locations in Tianjin, with thousands of tourists and visitors visiting the Ancient Street year after year.
Ancient Culture Street has a lot to offer, with many little stores and street shops selling everything Chinese, from modern to traditional. It is a great place to look around and buy something that you wouldn’t see anywhere else. From traditional Chinese pens and tea sets to (not-so-real) branded watches and bags, which you can purchase in some of the little shops tucked away around corners. Of course being foreign doesn’t always help, as the prices are raised as soon as they see your face. The best thing to do is have a price in your mind already (how much you want to spend), and stick to it. You can easily half the price of what some sellers are asking for, but this depends on seller to seller, and also what you are trying to buy. If you live or are just visiting Tianjin then Ancient Culture Street is a place you shouldn’t miss. With lots of beautiful scenery and old traditional Chinese buildings, great art work and the hustle of a popular Chinese place, it really does make you realize you’re in China. Most shops open at around 9am. However it is advisable to travel around 10 as some shop owners seem to like having a rest in the morning. During all Chinese Bank Holidays, Ancient Culture Street gets extremely busy, so please be careful with all your belongings. Just before the Haihe river is a Glass Bridge, an old military tank, and directly across you can easily see Ancient Culture Street, with a very colorful and traditional Chinese style entrance.
